Blockchain: Understanding a Disruptive Technology

Allisyn Monteleone and Nicholaus Rericha of Dinsmore provide an overview of blockchain technology, including the blockchain transaction process, blockchain technology regulations, and the ways in which blockchain is disrupting a number of industries. Mr. Rericha and Ms. Monteleone will also touch on how law firms are incorporating blockchain technology into their services.

About the Speaker:

Ms. Monteleone focuses her practice primarily on the preparation and prosecution of patents relating to chemistry and chemical engineering. With a background in pharmaceuticals, Ms. Monteleone’s experience ranges from the development of transdermal drugs to the monitoring and reporting of changes in global regulation of generic pharmaceuticals and biosimilars.

Mr. Rericha’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution, as well as invalidity and non-infringement opinions. His practice includes a wide variety of technological areas including robotics, material processing, optics, circuit design, control systems, software, computer science, automotive, power semiconductors, nanotechnology, among others. In addition, Nick’s practice also includes e-commerce, privacy, and licensing.

2018-2019 Student-Attorney Mentorship Program – Apply by Oct. 15!

We are excited to announce that our annual Student-Attorney Mentorship Program is underway!  We invite all interested law students and IP attorneys in the Greater Cincinnati area to apply by October 15, 2018.

Through the Mentorship Program, we match UC and NKU law students interested in intellectual property law with a local intellectual property attorney.  We encourage each mentor-mentee pair to meet 2-3 times throughout the academic year (e.g., over coffee or lunch), making the Program an easy commitment for all participants while providing the students an invaluable opportunity to ask questions, learn about IP practice, and grow their legal network while still in school.  The Program has been a great success in the past, and we hope you will help us make this year’s program a success as well.

The State of Patent Law and Possible Upcoming Changes

John S. Cipolla of Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP will share an overview of the current state of patent law and possible upcoming changes. Mr. Cipolla’s discussion will focus on the patentable subject matter standard under 35 U.S.C. 101, claim construction in inter partes review proceedings, and the irreparable harm standard for injunctions.

Mr. Cipolla is the Chair of the Intellectual Property Group at Calfee, where he provides clients with counseling and strategy concerning the procurement of patents and trademarks. Having practiced more than 30 years, Mr. Cipolla has extensive experience in litigation and dispute resolution in the areas of trademark and patent.
