Advantages of Ethical Negotiations

Join us on February 16, 2021 for our next webinar, led by Nicole Nan. Ms. Nan will focus on practicing and fostering ethical negotiations with other parties, whether or not those participating in the negotiations are attorneys. Using various hypothetical and real-life situations, Ms. Nan will look at how ethical behavior can lead to better, more productive outcomes and avoid higher costs down the road. She will also explore ethical aspects of negotiations and transactional practice and how to create and foster more ethical negotiations in various scenarios. We anticipate 1.0 hour of Professionalism/Ethics CLE credit in Ohio.

About the Speaker:

Nicole Nan is a partner with Dinsmore & Shohl LLP in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ms. Nan focuses her practice on drafting and negotiating agreements governing the creation, licensing, and transfer of intellectual property as well as litigation relating to patent infringement. Ms. Nan is a certified licensing professional who has negotiated sponsored research agreements with universities and joint development agreements with companies where intellectual property concerns play a key role in the transaction. Ms. Nan has previously spoken on practicing ethical negotiations to large corporations.

Attorneys Fulfilling Their Obligation to Provide Pro Bono Services

Join us for lunch on November 10, 2020 for a CincyIP CLE held by webinar. This event will be led by two attorneys at the Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio, a locally-based organization that provides free business and transactional legal services to nonprofit organizations. We will discuss how corporate and intellectual property attorneys can participate in pro bono opportunities that engage their specialized areas of practice; and how attorneys may serve on a Board. We are seeking 1.5 hours of Professionalism/Ethics CLE in Ohio.

About the Speakers:

Ms. Childs is the Executive Director of the Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio (PBPO). She is responsible for advancing the mission of PBPO and frequently lectures about nonprofit and tax-exempt organization law. Prior to joining PBPO, Ms. Childs was an attorney with Thompson Hine, LLP. Ms. Childs has been active in the Cincinnati Bar, serving on the Board of Directors of the Cincinnati Bar Association and the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Bar Foundation. Ms. Childs currently serves on the Nonprofit Law Committee and the Steering Committee for the Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers.

Ms. Patel is the Director of Education and Senior Counsel at Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio. She educates nonprofit board members, attorneys, and executives about nonprofit-specific legal issues. Ms. Patel also provides direct legal services to nonprofit organizations and serves as a resource for in-house and law firm attorney volunteers and nonprofit clients. She is admitted to the bar in Ohio and Virginia, a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association’s Nonprofit Law Practice Group, and a Cincinnati Academy of Leadership for Lawyers (CALL) class graduate.

Patent Eligibility: Tips and Tricks for the Efficient Patent Prosecutor

Join us for lunch on October 20, 2020 for a CincyIP CLE held by webinar. This presentation will give insights and guidance for patent prosecution. We will discuss patent eligibility and case law, techniques to overcome § 101 rejections, and tips for in-house and outside counsel collaboration. We are seeking 1.0 hour of CLE in Ohio.

About the Speakers:

Mr. Powell is currently Director and Assistant General Counsel for Skin Care Innovation at The Procter & Gamble Company (“P&G”). He has a demonstrated history of working in the consumer goods industry. He previously provided legal support for P&G’s Color Cosmetics and Baby Care Innovation groups. In those roles he provided intellectual property support for the Cover Girl, Pampers, and Luvs businesses, including patent preparation and prosecution, freedom to operate, IP strategy, litigation/opposition strategy, contract drafting and negotiation, and client counseling. Mr. Powell has also managed significant foreign and domestic patent portfolios for P&G.

Ms. Singh is an attorney with Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and focuses her practice on patent preparation and prosecution for both domestic and foreign cases. Her background in electrical, computer, and industrial engineering enables her to flexibly work within and across multiple technical areas. She previously worked as an application engineer, building programmable logic controller (PLC) expertise integrating proprietary software and hardware across multiple industrial factory sites. She has significant experience working with intellectual property in the biomedical, mechanical, software, and electronic realms. She has in-depth knowledge about patent eligibility issues surrounding software and electrical arts and has drafted and prosecuted numerous patent applications in these areas, being instrumental in their allowance both domestically and internationally. She is adept at working with clients to draft and prosecute patent applications, provide validity and infringement opinions, and handle freedom to operate and prior art analysis.
